Brookdale Park Tidy Up
To coincide with the September 2008 launch of the Big Tidy Up, Keep Britain Tidy Chief Executive, Phil Barton, rolled his sleeves up and helped out with a tidy up of Brookdale Park in Newton Heath, Manchester.
Items removed included cycle frames, car tyres, bottles, bricks and plastic waste. The tidy up was the culmination of a series of work led by the Brookdale User Group, aimed at sprucing up the park and improving the environment for wildlife and visitors alike.
Working together, Brookdale User Group and the BTCV have now transformed one of the park’s neglected ponds into a new dipping platform sowed with wildflowers where young people can learn about pond wildlife. The Brookdale Park tidy up was deemed such a success that images from the event were shown at a Labour party conference fringe event.
