Bournemouth Blitz
Local residents joined the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), Friends of Kinson Common and the Millhams Meaders to take part in a Big Tidy Up at Bournemouth’s Stour Valley nature reserve in September 2008.
Two events were held on 14 September – one in the morning at Kinson Common during which five bags of rubbish were cleared, and the other in the afternoon at Millhams Mead – resulting in the removal of nine bags.
At Kinson Common, volunteers covered around 75% of the 40 acre site, recovering items ranging from cans, bottles and food wrappings through to traffic cones and discarded magazines. The Millhams Mead site was mainly marred by waste left by anglers, including food and drink wrappers, clothing and fishing lines.
