Big Dee Day and a Big Tidy Up!

The Big Dee Day is an annual September clean-up of the River Dee and Dee Estuary in Chester and North Wales, which sees over 600 local residents and people from around 60 businesses and organisations join forces to clear the area of unsightly litter.

In support of the Big Dee Day 2008, a Big Tidy Up took place on the banks of the River Dee near County Hall and the Little Roodee.

The event saw staff from Chester City Council and Cheshire County Council brave the riverbank’s sticky mud, clearing an impressive 20 bags of rubbish.

The site is at the upper tidal reach of the River Dee so refuse deposited at high tide comes in from all parts of the Dee Estuary. Unusual items recovered included two laptops, an electronic typewriter, four traffic cones and a lifebelt.

According to BTCV, passers by provided many kind words of encouragement, including: “Well done!”, “Looks fun!” and “Good to see people who care about the environment.”
